Autumn Splendor

We took a drive up Hobble Creek Canyon a couple weeks ago to see the fall foliage. The setting was idyllic...about 2 hours before we actually left. We'd prepared a picnic and planned to leave right after the kids got home from school, but applesauce (making it) and babysitting (doing it) altered our plans. By the time we got on the road, our perfect activity had degenerated to kids: "Where are we gooooing?!" and "Can't we get ooooooout?!" Mom: (through clenched teeth) "Aren't the-shhhh!-leaves pretty, look out the window-hush!-see the pretty leaves-no!-" you get the picture. We were lucky to see anything before it got dark. We mostly gaped at the enormous houses...oh no, these cannot be called houses...mansions that sprawl throughout the canyon. (Seriously, can SOMEONE tell me what the heck these people DO for a living?) We found one little place to pull off the road and snap some pictures. I think we ended up having a good time; we can (almost) forget that it was more "whine" than "wonderful." I do love this season, and it was good to get out and stretch our wings a little!
