MADD
I have MADD. Mommy Attention Deficit Disorder. I made it up...or maybe not. Here's an excerpt from today:
Go upstairs to fix hair (I had about 4 1/2 minutes between working out and picking up Brooklyn at preschool to shower, so now it's 2 hours later and time to stop looking scary).
On the way to my bathroom, spy a clean batch of laundry sitting in the hall.
Take it to my room and begin to fold.
Find a towel that can be hung in the bathroom instead of folded, take it there.
Pick up kids clothes from bathroom floor and walk the 5 steps to the laundry hamper. (How come I'm the only one who can do this??)
Resume folding.
Remember that I forgot to call the dentist to see if there's openings tomorrow-run downstairs to make the call.
Make the appointment, check on dinner, go back upstairs.
Oh! There's an empty basket. Need to put in another batch of laundry. Pull the clean clothes out of dryer. Gather armful of dirty clothes.
Oops, didn't switch laundry from the washer to the dryer, toss dirty clothes aside and do so.
Pick up some toys and throw them in a nearby basket. (How come I'm the only one who can do this??)
Oh ya, put the dirty clothes in the washer.
See a hamper of dirty laundry that there's now room to sort, might as well.
Head back to finish folding, see that I didn't get all the toys the first time, stop and pick up the rest.
Finish folding the laundry.
Um, why exactly did I come upstairs again?
It's bad! That's only about 20 minutes worth and this happens All. Day. Long. No wonder I get to the end of many days, exhausted, and wonder what the heck I did all day.
I'm not sure there's a cure. There's lists...I make lots and lots of lists, but MADD still happens. Maybe I'll have to cut my kids some slack when they complain that it's not their fault they didn't ________ (clean their room, finish their homework, practice the piano) they got "dis-traaaaac-ted". Apparently I do too.
Now I'm off to do my hair...
